David W. Patterson was born and raised in Hemingway South Carolina the son of Manning and Betty Patterson. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina and his JD degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1980.

Dave practiced in Sumter, South Carolina for seven years in the areas of Bankruptcy and collections before enrolling in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth Texas to attain his MDiv degree for the ministry. He served as senior pastor of churches in Camden and Greenwood, SC before returning to practice in the Bankruptcy court in 2004. In 2007 he was called as senior pastor of Ashley River Baptist Church in Charleston where he served for 10 years.

In July of 2017, Dave joined Thurmond Kirchner & Timbes, PA to practice in the areas of judgment recovery, collections and bankruptcy.

Dave is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and the Charleston county Bar Association and is admitted to practice in South Carolina and before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and the U.S  District Court for the District of South Carolina.

Dave currently resides on James Island with his Wife Jennifer (Jenny) Kissling Patterson formerly of Atlanta and has one older son and daughter-in-law, John Manning and Semona Patterson and a wonderful granddaughter, Faith.
