Paul Thurmond was sworn in as a Judge for the Municipal Court of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina in a ceremony on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 6 p.m. The Town of Mount Pleasant Council unanimously appointed Thurmond to serve a two-year term. He will assume office on January 1st, 2019.
“I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life to serve my community. I want to thank the Town Council for allowing me this opportunity,” said Thurmond.
Thurmond received his bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and his law degree from the University of South Carolina. Thurmond is currently the managing partner and co-founder of Thurmond Kircher and Timbes law firm, where he is the lead criminal defense, civil and personal injury attorney. In 2006 Thurmond was elected to the Charleston County Council, and while serving he was the chairman of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee, served on CARTA, the Council of Governments, and the Charleston Aviation Authority. He was also elected as State Senator (2012-2016), and served on the Judiciary, Education, Fish, Game and Forestry, Criminology and Penology and the Rules Committees. Thurmond is a member of the Rotary of St. Andrews and is a Riley Institute Diversity Fellow.
